Westland Mineral Sands (WMS) is proud to celebrate two years since commencing production at its mining facility on the West Coast.
To mark the occasion, the company has released a new brand video showcasing its journey, values, and contributions to the local region.
“Since day one, we have been dedicated to operational excellence and innovation, best practice environmental management and sustainable initiatives to enhance our ecosystem and land-use capabilities,” says WMS Managing Director Ray Mudgway.
“In just two years, Westland Mineral Sands has reached key production milestones, exported 100,000 tonnes of heavy mineral concentrate and driven growth for New Zealand. Demand for our product is stronger than ever.
“We employ 60 staff across our mining, ports and logistics businesses and our growth plans will see that number double in the next year, with highly skilled roles on offer in engineering, geotechnical, environmental management and sustainability.
WMS is committed to supporting the growth of the West Coast Community through jobs, innovation and local partnerships. The company has sponsored initiatives such as Buller Rugby, the Westport Whitebait Festival, the Kawatiri Coastal Trail, and more recently, the West Coast Penguin Trust.
“We are also proud to have awarded our first $30,000 education scholarship to local student Kaira Lourie, who is working as an intern with WMS this Summer. Upon completing her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Geology, she’ll have the opportunity to join us full-time.
WMS is also investing in the restoration of West Coast ports to unlock regional resources, improve cargo movement and enhance community support in emergency situations.
“Looking ahead we remain committed to being a world leader in critical minerals, advancing the shift towards a sustainable future, while building a resilient, intergenerational business for the West Coast and New Zealand.
“We are deeply grateful to our dedicated staff, partners and the West Coast community for their ongoing support. This milestone is a testament to the strength of collaboration and our shared vision for sustainable development,” says Mudgway.
